Spring Media
The sun is out. Seasonal depression is over. It is time to jump into spring. When I think of spring it’s days at the park, watching the flowers bloom and dusting out those books that feel like nature and rebirth all at once.
Here’s my top books I long to reread during the spring season.
The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
There’s something so warm and new about people beginning an adventure. Whether it’s the time spent in the gentle lands of Hobbiton or watching the group of hobbits getting lost in the woods.
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree
what’s better than a warm pastry and cozy coffee shop as the spring season begins? Follow the story of an orc adventure who decides to retire and build a coffee shop. The plot is simple and low stakes and mostly involves trying to convince the town she settles in that coffee is in fact delicious.
Half A Soul by Olivia Atwater
I love the regency spring vibes of this book. It features a young heroine who had half her soul taken by a fairy as a child, who learns to navigate the social season with her cousin and maybe full in love along the way.
It features spring woods, elves, and love - what could be more spring than that.
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers
A tea monk ventures into the wilds and meets a robot who’s been sent to check on humanity. It really is about discovering who you are and what you want, as well as learning to connect with those around you.
It’s beautiful and heartwarming and features much love for the sounds of nature and a warm cup of tea.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Something about the warm days in Hollywood and the times spent along the coast as we see Evelyn deal with heartache, romance, and finding success across a lifetime. There’s also something about Evelyn’s apartment as a older woman that brings such spring vibes to me.
It can be so rejoiceful to read about someone’s life in reflection
Tired of books? Try some heartwarming movies to warm you in a spring afternoon.
The Princess Diaries (2001)
It’s warm and sunny and has all that magical whimsy of a 2000s chick flick. We get to see a sunny San Francisco and Mia attempt to have fun at a beach party.
The Wind Rises (2013)
Beautiful and heart breaking. This animated hayao miyazaki film tells the story of a plane designer in Japan during WW2 and his tragic romance. It’s a lovely film about creating and building things in hard times. We spend a good chunk of the film in the countryside of Japan giving us lovely shots of fields and blue skies
Matilda (1996)
Miss Honey is the true definition of spring. A sweet, kind teacher who helps a bookish student learn to love herself and rebel against the evil principle.
When I think of spring, I think of Miss Honey and her cozy spring cottage.
Bridgerton Season 1 (2020)
The first season of bridgerton, with its pastel lavander and cream gloves, feels like spring. Watching someone find a best friend and true love, as they step into adulthood for the first time. There was something truly magical in that first season that feels so new and warm to me. As well as the instrumental background. If you’re wanting a few hours of romance in the spring, this is the show for you
